West Ham United have stepped up their interest in Darwin Nunez, with the Daily Mail reporting that a bid has now been launched for the 22-year-old.
The Hammers could be one of the sides to watch in the final hours of the January transfer window. They have been linked with club-record bids for the likes of Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha.
And it would appear that they may have to be prepared to go to similar lengths if they hope to pull off a dramatic late move for Nunez.
The Daily Mail reports that a bid has now been made. Benfica value the Uruguayan at £45 million with the youngster already on 20 goals for the season.

It is noted that a move may be difficult to complete. Nunez is currently away on international duty, and Benfica will also be wary of letting him go with time running out to find a replacement.

It seems obvious to say, but West Ham need to get a move on. But it appears that a deadline on landing Nunez could come even sooner. They need to leave Benfica with enough time to bring a striker in themselves.
That may perhaps suggest that we may not have to wait too long to learn if West Ham have any realistic chance of a deal on Monday. It would certainly be a huge statement if David Moyes could bring him to the London Stadium.
