About 11 communities which paid over N30million for peace deal with bandits in Kaduna State have been attacked by terrorists, SaharaReporters learnt.

SaharaReporters gathered that the villages taxed by the bandits, include Unguwan Fari, Unguwan Makera, Unguwan Badewa, Unguwan Dan-Fulani, Sadauki and several others in the Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of the state.

A resident of the area who pleaded anonymity said they were compelled by bandits to pay over N30million ransom to stay safe.

He further disclosed that even before the latest security levy, farmers in most of the villages had to part with millions of naira to harvest their crops.

“Unfortunately, paying the tax to bandits does not necessarily guarantee safety, because the bandits often renege on their promise”, another villager lamented.

A security expert, Barrister El-Zubair Abubakar described the development as disturbing. “This is a huge threat to the economic survival of the people”, he added.

Birnin Gwari and its adjoining communities have faced ferocious attacks from bandits, just like the Zangon Kataf area in southern Kaduna.

On Sunday, SaharaReporters reported how bandits killed 11 persons and burnt more than 30 houses in Kurmin Masara in the Zangon Kataf Local Government Area.

Efforts to reach the Commissioner of Internal Security, Samuel Aruwan for comments were unsuccessful, as calls to his cellphone indicated switched off as of the time of filing this report.
