David Reed has told Sky Sports News (broadcast on 31/1; 7:40) that they have been informed that West Ham have indeed agreed a fee for Darwin Nunez – but getting a deal across the line will still be difficult.
The Hammers are stepping up their plans in the final hours of the January transfer window. And Nunez is one of the players who has emerged onto the radar in recent days.
It was suggested on Monday that a bid had indeed been launched. But Nunez is valued at £45 million by Benfica after scoring 20 goals in all competitions this season.
That would be a huge statement from the Hammers. And it would appear that they still face an uphill battle trying to get a deal done. However, Reed claimed that a major breakthrough has taken place in talks.

“They are pushing this deadline day to complete a deal for the Benfica striker Darwin Nunez on a permanent transfer,” he told Sky Sports News.
“Now, we are told that a fee has been agreed for the player. Although, one source has told us that because it’s starting to get so close to the deadline, logistically, it will be difficult to try and get this over the line.”
West Ham would make major statement with deadline day move for Nunez
West Ham do need another striker. And it would be a massive boost to their season if they could bring a goalscorer in before the deadline.
Nunez is currently away on international duty with Uruguay, which will not help the Hammers.
But it is encouraging that a fee has reportedly been agreed. West Ham fans will hope that the updates in the coming hours prove to be extremely positive.
