The transfer window was quite the ride in the end for all related to Tottenham Hotspur football club.
Fabio Paratici was tasked with bringing in new players for Antonio Conte and there didn’t seem to be a day go by where Tottenham weren’t linked with a new player. Deals fell by the wayside for some – such as Adam Traore – while other ones got over the line, such as the late double swoop for Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur.
Of course, a number of Spurs players left the club too. Dele Alli went to Everton, Tanguy Ndombele back to Lyon, and Lo Celso and Gil also went out on loan. Certainly, it was clear that the club’s strategy is to overhaul things a bit.
However, while the late arrivals of Kulusevski and Bentancur were sealed in their own unique ways, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Spurs actually wanted to do one of those deals differently. In the case of Bentancur, Romano has claimed on his YouTube channel that Paratici and co actually wanted to send Tanguy Ndombele in a swap deal.
The Footballer Who Made Interpol’s ‘Most Wanted’ List
“Tottenham were trying a few days before the end of the window, to do a swap deal with Juventus. Rodrigo Bentancur to Spurs, and Tanguy Ndombele to Juventus. This was the swap deal Tottenham were proposing. Juventus were not interested but Tottenham were pushing for the swap deal,” Romano said.
TBR’s View: Paratici Always Wheeling And Dealing
Obviously the Spurs chief got his moves over the line in the end. But this news just shows how the Italian is always looking at the market and what he can and can’t do.
Ndombele was linked to Juventus right from the off, so this is no surprise to hear really. Long-term, however, Ndombele going to Lyon is better for Tottenham. It remains to be seen, of course, just how well Bentancur can do in North London.
