Newcastle United are now optimistic that they will complete a deadline day loan deal for Jesse Lingard, with 90min reporting that talks are as advanced as they have ever been.
Lingard has been one of the main protagonists during the January transfer window. And it has appeared that Eddie Howe has been extremely keen to add the 29-year-old to his ranks in the hope that he can replicate the form that he showed while at West Ham last year.
It had seemed however, that Newcastle had pulled the plug on a potential move. Previous reports claimed that Manchester United had wanted a £12 million bonus included in a loan agreement. That would then be paid should Newcastle remain in the Premier League.
Those terms could have seen the Magpies ultimately pay around £14.5 million to sign Lingard for the rest of the season.
It is not clear whether a compromise has since been reached. But 90min reports that there is now confidence from both sides that Lingard could seal that loan move to Newcastle.
Talks remain ongoing. And Lingard has already agreed personal terms with the Magpies. There is real optimism from Newcastle that they will get a deal for the England international across the line.
Newcastle agreeing loan move for Lingard would be ideal way to round off impressive window
Newcastle have been the side to watch throughout the window. And they have done some brilliant business. The signings of Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood look incredibly smart.
The deal for Bruno Guimarães could prove to be an absolute masterstroke. And they are pushing to bring Dan Burn in having reportedly agreed a fee.
Adding Lingard to the ranks would be an amazing way to round off the window. He was a player previously labelled ‘stunning‘ by Alan Shearer.
And it seems that a move may not be as far away as previously thought.
