Newcastle United have so far got two deals over the line in the January transfer window.
Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood have joined, and Bruno Guimaraes is seemingly next in line.
Newcastle are expected to be busy over the next few days as they look to further bolster their ranks.
And according to Marca, the Magpies are plotting over a late swoop for what would be a real marquee signing.
RONALDO NEEDS TO STOP WHINING.
Newcastle have been linked with Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele for a number of weeks now.
The winger has struggled for game time as it is this season, with just 11 appearances under his belt.
But a stalemate in contract talks has resulted in Barca effectively telling him to leave.
As per Sky Sports, Dembele’s representatives recently met with the Barca hierarchy for further talks over his future.
His agents stressed that Dembele wants to play for the club at least until the end of his contract and is fully committed to the cause.
He is also willing to extend his contract, which expires in the summer.
However, not on the current terms that have been offered, which includes a considerable pay cut.
However, Barca reiterated that, if he doesn’t sign the deal already offered, then he must find another club to buy him.
Newcastle vying with Chelsea and Manchester United for Dembele?
Marca has elaborated on those talks and what Dembele and his representatives are planning now.
The 24-year-old has reportedly acknowledged that leaving the club is the best course of action for everyone.
And ‘in these last hours’, Dembele’s agent has been looking in the English market for a solution.
He considers the Premier League a good move for the France international, added the report.
And three English teams are reportedly considering him – Newcastle, Chelsea and Manchester United.
The report adds that ‘all possibilities’ are on the table… ‘even a loan until the end of the season.’
Dembele joined Barca to much fanfare in 2017, arriving from Borussia Dortmund for a reported £97million.
His release clause is a staggering 400 million euro (£334million), testament to how high expectations were of him.
However, Dembele’s time at the club hasn’t been smooth sailing amid a myriad of injury troubles.
He has made 129 Azulgrana appearances during that time, with just six starts this season.
Dembele is in need of a fresh start – could St James’ Park give him that chance?
