More Controversies, as Ogun Governor Appoints SSG, CoS

Damilola Adelesi, Abeokuta

The camp of the New Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun is on fire over his yesterday’s announcement of Secretary to the State Government and Chief of Staff appointments.

Prince Dapo Abiodun, through his Chief Press Secretary, Kunle Somorin had yesterday announced the appointment of Olatokunbo Joseph Talabi as the Secretary to the State Government, and Shuaib Afolabi Salisu as the Chief of Staff.

However, the appointments have generated controversies among loyalists and supporters of the new Ogun governor, who believes some people within the camp merits the positions ahead of the appointed persons.

Nelson Smith, one of the supporters of Prince Dapo Abiodun took to his facebook timeline to berate the decision of the governor, challenging the process that brought the emergence of Talabi and Salisu as SSG and CoS respectively.

“I would never partake in any campaign or electioneering process again since appointment is based on either godfatherism or financial supports. Can you justify what brought Olatokunbo Talabi’s appointment as SSG?” Smith added.

Gbadebo Olushola Scott responded saying:  “All appointments must not be based on politics. He is a technocrat. The question you should be asking is that is he capable and does he has the experience to hold the office. The governor already said he would appoints technocrats in his cabinet not just politicians.”

In the same vein, Olamide Lawal defended the decision of the governor: “Governance is different from campaign. The Governor needs calibre of Talabi to assist him in his desire to take Ogun State to the Next Level because no one is an island of knowledge. Mr Talabi will bring his rich experience into governance to the advantage of the State.”

However, feelers within the camp hinted on the expectation of people within the camp, who have confidence in Bimbo Ashiru, Bukola Onabanjo, among many others to have clinched the position of the Secretary to the State Government ahead of Talabi.

Olatokunbo Joseph Talabi is rumoured to be the anointed candidate of the Ogun All Progressives Congress Chieftain, Chief Segun Osoba. While Shuaib Afolabi Salisu is believed to be a product of Tinubu/Yayi’s camp.

Ogunreporters reliably gathered there is serious crisis brewing within the camp of Governor Dapo Abiodun, who is believed to have favoured technocrats ahead of the real politicians that supported and worked towards the realisation of his governorship aspiration.
