Jack Wilshere has admitted that he’d “love it” if Arsenal were the club that signed him up.
The 30-year-old, who came through the Gunners ranks and shone for the club, is currently a free agent.
Wilshere has spent the last few months training with Arsenal as he looks to build his fitness before deciding on his next career move.
The former England international hasn’t played professionally since Bournemouth released him last June.
RONALDO NEEDS TO STOP WHINING.
Mikel Arteta invited him to take part in Arsenal training back in November.
Wilshere has also been working closely with their youth squad in order to help him with his coaching badges.
The midfielder also headed to Dubai with the Arsenal squad for their warm-weather training camp.
There have certainly been some hints regarding the prospect of Wilshere re-signing for Arsenal.
Last month, academy talent Bradley Ibrahim described Wilshere as the “best player in training”.
And recently, Wilshere was spotted with a squad number on his training gear.
Usually, he’d just sport his initials ‘JW’, but he was seen with 12 – which is currently unassigned in Arsenal’s squad.
Arteta, however, has regularly insisted that Wilshere will not be rejoining Arsenal as a player.
“I think I was very clear on the situation with Jack and the role he’s going to have around here,” he has said.
“And we will continue the same way.”
But on Friday, speaking on talkSPORT (4/2/22, 5:45pm), Wilshere admitted he’d love to rejoin Arsenal as a player.
Darren Bent asked Wilshere: “Jack, why are you not playing for Arsenal?”
And the Gunners cult hero replied: “Because the manager doesn’t want me to. Well, I don’t think he does.”
A little later on, Andy Goldstein asked: “Do you want (your next club) to be Arsenal?”
“I would love it to be Arsenal,” replied Wilshere. “But I am not in control of that.”
Bent replied that “Arteta must listen to the show”.
Goldstein then jokingly asked Wilshere if he could use his phone to call the Arsenal manager.
Your move, Mikel.
