Arsenal confirmed last night that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has left the club by mutual consent.

The Gabon star fell out with Mikel Arteta in December. Arsenal stripped Aubameyang of his captaincy and he was pushed away from the first-team squad.

It was pretty clear that there was no way back for Aubameyang and he had a decision to make. He agreed to terminate his contract and move on, which is the best thing for all parties involved.

Although it is not official just yet, it seems likely that Aubameyang will join Barcelona.

Mesut Ozil sends a message to Aubameyang after his Arsenal exit

Right after his exit was confirmed, Aubameyang took to Instagram to bid farewell to Arsenal fans after four years at the club.

The 32-year-old thanked all the supporters for the love and claimed that he is sad and hurt that he wasn’t given a chance to say a ‘real goodbye’. He also wished the club and the players the best for the future.

A number of people responded to Aubameyang’s post, including Mesut Ozil, whose contract was also terminated at Arsenal after a fall out with Artetaduring the 2019/20 season.

The German replied saying: “All the best bro.”

Gabriel Magalhaes also replied saying “Love u Bro” followed by three heart emojis, while Aaron Ramsdale commented: “Thanks for looking after me big bro.”

Arsenal have to stop terminating contracts

Aubameyang becomes the fifth player after Mesut Ozil, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Shkodran Mustafi and Sead Kolasinac to have his contract terminated by the club over the last two years.

That is really poor management by the club and although Arsenal had their reasons and they were probably right to do what they did, this is simply not sustainable in the long run.

Edu, Arteta and Richard Garlick have to put an end to this right away. The Gunners cannot continue to let players go for nothing season after season. If they do, it will cost them sooner rather than later.
