Arsenal fans will be going into full-blown panic mode tomorrow as the transfer window enters its final 24 hours.
The Gunners have yet to sign anyone this month, barring goalkeeper Matt Turner. This, despite sending a number of players out on loan deals during January. One of those players is going to be Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, with The Times claiming a deal is all but done for the striker to move to Barcelona.
Spanish giants Barca are set to cover to bulk of Aubameyang’s wages for six months, thought to be around the £350k-a-week mark. However, the more worrying news for Arsenal is the fact that Aubameyang could be on his way, without a single replacement being brought in.
The Times reports that two potential targets, Alvaro Morata and Luka Jovic, are set to stay put at Juventus and Real Madrid respectively. Both are set to snub the Gunners’ interest, once again leaving Edu and Mikel Arteta in limbo.
Arsenal’s attacking options are limited at the moment. They also allowed Folarin Balogun to leave on loan, while both Eddie Nketiah and Alex Lacazette are out of contract in the summer. Indeed, Nketiah could even leave by the window slamming shut tomorrow.
TBR’s View: What Are Arsenal Doing
It’s been a mess this window for the Gunners, it really has. Names have been mentioned all the way through, big names as well, and yet, they’re stood here heading into the final 24 hours with nothing.
Edu faces a frantic task now in getting someone in. The Gunners simply cannot expect to compete for the top four without a new number nine option in the squad.
The decision to let Aubameyang go isn’t a bad one. He needs shifting on, and it’s a big saving on wages. But to not bring anyone in is ridiculous, and Arsenal fans will be fuming come tomorrow night if nothing’s changed.
