Newcastle United have reportedly been making good progress with Bruno Guimaraes.
On Tuesday, Sky Sports claimed the Magpies had agreed a fee with Lyon in the region of £30m to sign him.
Lyon subsequently released a statement denying an agreement has been reached.
Today, Chronicle Live claimed the Magpies have been holding further talks with the 24-year-old.
And Newcastle are apparently hoping that they can land Guimaraes before the weekend.
The outlet claims the Magpies and Lyon have settled the outline terms of a preliminary agreement.
So, everything looking positive this end.
And things look even more promising from the Brazilian end, with media outlets suggesting the deal is all-but done.
UOL‘s Danilo Lavieri has claimed that Guimaraes “will play” for Newcastle, with Lyon “selling him” for around £33million.
Newcastle “will spare no effort” in signing the Brazil international, he added.
“Bruno Guimaraes will play for Newcastle,” said Lavieri.
“He left Athletico-PR in January 2020, Lyon bought him for 20 million euros and, when he was bought, he was in the concentration of the pre-Olympic Brazilian team.
“Juninho Pernambucano went to Colombia, where the national team was concentrated and they signed the agreement.
“Now Lyon are selling him for 40 million euros to Newcastle, who are the new rich club in Europe, they were bought by a fund from Saudi Arabia.
“Newcastle will spare no effort. They already signed Trippier and Wood and now Bruno Guimaraes is another possibility.
“This window is not even the strongest, it’s the calmest in Europe, and the good one is the one in the middle of the year.”
