Ian Wright has told Wrighty’s House that he was quite happy to see Tottenham Hotspur not sign Tariq Lamptey in January, insisting that he is amazed that no-one has landed the reported Arsenal target yet.
Lamptey is unquestionably one of the most exciting talents in the Premier League. He has been outstanding during his time with Brighton. Graham Potter has called him ‘amazing‘ in the past.
Reports during the January transfer window claimed that both Spurs and Arsenal wanted the £50 million right-back. Tottenham, in particular, look to have a problem in that area of the pitch.
Spurs missed out on Adama Traore in the latter stages of the January window. Nevertheless, Antonio Conte’s men did not seem to make a move for Lamptey.

And Wright has admitted that he is pleased to see the 21-year-old is still up for grabs and not now a Tottenham player.
“You know what, I’ve heard a lot of Tottenham fans going crazy that they’re not going for Tariq Lamptey,” he told Wrighty’s House.
“I’m quite happy [they’ve not signed him] as well because I literally cannot believe no-one has tried to prise that man out of Brighton!”
Tottenham look set to push for Arsenal target Lamptey this summer
The January window may have only closed a couple of days ago, but Tottenham are already being linked with a future move for Lamptey. Reports this week claimed that they are likely to bid this summer.
Tottenham did not fill that wing-back void. Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty look set to battle over the position for the rest of the season.
Neither has looked convincing this season. Royal, in particular, has been particularly underwhelming since his arrival.
So a new signing this summer looks likely. And Lamptey will be at the top of many fans’ lists.
The position may be less of a priority for Arsenal. Takehiro Tomiyasu has been a revelation in the Premier League. But Lamptey is also a player capable of playing in other positions. He has featured further forward on a number of occasions.
And Wright will clearly be hoping that Arsenal are there to make their own move should Tottenham bid this summer.
