It was a dream return to Liverpool action for Harvey Elliott today as the midfielder got on the scoresheet as the Reds saw off Cardiff City in the FA Cup.
Elliott has put in the work following a horrific injury to work his way back into contention ahead of schedule. The former Fulham man is one of the most highly-rated prospects in English football, and he once again showed his promise with a fine second half finish.
Jurgen Klopp called Elliott’s return a fairy tale and it certainly felt that way.
And speaking after the game about his return to fitness, Elliott revealed how he has been watching Liverpool striker Diogo Jota for some tips on hitting the back of the net.
Is Activism REALLY Damaging Marcus Rashford’s Form?
“This is what I’m in the team to do – to score and assist. Thankfully it’s come today in front of the crowd after having a long time out. At the end of the day, it’s my job, so I’ve just got to keep doing it. It’s a moment that myself and my family will remember,” Elliott told LFC’s official website.
“I’ve been watching my man next to me, Diogo, he’s been banging them in left right and centre for us, so I’ve been getting a few tips off him.”
Jota himself scored the opener with yet another headed goal. The former Wolves man, like Salah and Mane, is now integral to this Liverpool team.
TBR’s View: Elliott Right To Study Jota
What a forward Jota is. He can score all types of goal and he’s gone from being a winger at Wolves, to more of a number nine with Liverpool. And given his size, it’s amazing how he does the job so well.
He is truly rewriting the stereotype of what a typical number nine is. Elliott, then, is wise to watch the Portugal star and could do far worse than learn from Jota.
