Newcastle United forward Callum Wilson is looking forward to seeing Bruno Guimaraes in action for the Magpies.

The Brazil international joined Newcastle last Sunday, the Magpies paying Lyon £40million for his services.

Guimaraes completed a medical in Brazil two days earlier, ahead of signing a Newcastle contract until 2026.

The 24-year-old established himself as one of the best midfielders in Europe while at Lyon.

Your Club’s CRUEL Transfer Decision This Month

Guimaraes made 25 appearances in all competitions for them this season, registering six assists.

He has also won four caps for the Brazil national team.

Indeed, Guimaraes provided an assist for his nation in their 4-0 win over Paraguay last time out.

The second-half substitute showed great composure to slide the ball across the goal for Rodrygo to tap into an empty net.

Wilson, speaking on The Footballer’s Football Podcast, gave his verdict on Newcastle’s signing of Guimaraes.

“It was a strange one,” said the Magpies striker.

“Because one minute the doctor was there at the club, the next one he’s gone to do the medical.

“I’ve not heard much about Bruno, but I’m sure he’s a great talent and he’s only going to add quality to our squad.

“I’m looking forward to seeing him train and play.”

Guimaraes a real marquee signing for Newcastle – TBR View

Newcastle have done well in the January transfer window, bringing in five much-needed recruits.

But of those, Guimaraes is undoubtedly the most high-profile, given his profile.

A 24-year-old Brazil international who was reportedly wanted by the likes of Arsenal, he’s a real marquee signing for the Magpies.

It’ll be exciting to see how he fares for Newcastle over the course of the season.

With Eddie Howe also bringing in other high-quality players who also boast Premier League experience, top-flight survival looks more likely now.
