Arsenal are already looking ahead to a huge summer of transfer business after seeing the January window fail to produce the goods in terms of what Edu and Mikel Arteta wanted.
A new striker was top of the agenda for the Gunners. However, a number of reported targets like Alex Isak, Dusan Vlahovic, and Dom Calvert-Lewin, all apparently slipped the net. Obviously, the intention remains the same for Arsenal, who will be keen to ensure they do land that number nine Arteta desperately wants.
However, there could also be players added in other positions, and according to Goal, the Gunners still have eyes on Middlesbrough defender, Djed Spence. Goal’s report states that the Nottingham Forest loanee is firmly on Arsenal’s radar, with cover for Takehiro Tomiyasu wanted.
Interestingly, Spence was also a target for Tottenham on deadline day. As we reported on TBR on the day, Tottenham just missed out on landing Spence, having fallen £3m short of paying the reported £15m asking-price.
Arsenal themselves had already had a look at Spence in January. It seems, then, that he remains firmly on their radar.
TBR’s View: Summer Scramble Coming For Djed Spence
It seems so strange that Spence can’t find a place in the Middlesbrough team. If anything, that probably shows how well-stocked Chris Wilder’s men are at right-back.
Spence is excellent. His performances for Forest have been nothing short of superb and it’s no surprise to see the likes of Tottenham and Arsenal looking at him. Labelled as ‘unbelievable’ by Ian Wright when Forest played Arsenal in the cup this season, Spence has certainly impressed onlookers.
The 21-year-old has a huge future ahead of him. The worry for Arsenal, though, will be if Spence continues as is, then that £15m valuation will grow further come the summer.
