According to CBS Sport, Arsenal are busy working to upgrade Mikel Arteta’s strikeforce.
The American outlet has claimed that the Gunners have been offered Porto striker Mehdi Taremi on loan.
Arsenal target Taremi – factfile
Taremi has spent most of his professional career in his native Iran, playing for Iranjavan, Shahin Bushehr and Persepolis.
He also had an 18-month spell playing for Qatari outfir Al-Gharafa.
In July 2019, Taremi joined Portugal’s Rio Ave, and just over a year later, Porto signed him.
Taremi, who reportedly has a £50million release clause, has been in great form for his club this season.
From 29 club games in all competitions, he has registered 13 goals and nine assists.
In addition, he has 22 goals from 55 appearances with Iran.
Taremi’s style of play
World Soccer wrote in 2020: “Modest and self-effacing off the pitch, Taremi exudes class and intelligence on it, but allied to his elegant style is a lethal streak.
“Tall and athletic, he uses his body well, but it is his two-footedness, technique and composure in front of goal that makes him such a danger.
“His trickery and quick feet make him especially dangerous in the opposition box.”
What has been said about Taremi
In April last year, Taremi scored a sensational winner for Porto in the Champions League quarter-final second leg against Chelsea.
Taremi’s goal came in the third minute of injury time and helped Porto to a 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge.
However, the Blues led 2-0 from the first leg and so proceeded to the semi-finals 2-1 on aggregate.
Rio Ferdinand and Joe Cole both lauded Taremi’s efforts on BT Sport, as reported by the Daily Mail.
Ferdinand said: “It is a speculative ball but the way it lines it up… I think it comes off the shin pad but it’s a ridiculous effort.’
Cole added: “It was going to take an outstanding effort, it’s inviting and I don’t care if it’s come off his shin, it’s flown into the top bins.”
Taremi’s response when asked about Arsenal links
Taremi recently scored the goal that helped Iran qualify for the 2022 World Cup.
He netted the only goal in Iran’s 1-0 win over Iraq last week.
After the game, Vana News asked him about speculation linking him with the Gunners.
The 29-year-old deflected the question, preferring instead to talk about his nation’s achievement.
“Now it’s better to talk about the national team,” replied Taremi.
“Because this team has now gone to the World Cup.”
