Antonio Conte is known for not being able to hold his tongue if he doesn’t think something is right and that appears to be the same no matter what your status is within a football club.
Since taking over Spurs, Conte has already criticised past transfer deals. He’s also mentioned how some players are short in terms of fitness and technical abilities, and has also made no secret of his desire to be backed in the transfer market. Of course, these are all things we see in the media regularly.
However, Football.London have reported today that even behind the scenes, Conte hasn’t been afraid to say what he feels. And that stretches right up to Daniel Levy, with FL reporting that the Italian coach has gone face to face to Levy and told him what they refer to as ‘home truths’ about Spurs as a club.
It’s even suggested that Conte has told Levy more about the club’s failings in just three months at the club, than his predecessors mentioned in over three years.
Grading Every Club’s January Transfer Window
Certainly, it seems like the former Chelsea boss won’t be made a fool of and appears to have made his stance on matters perfectly clear.
TBR’s View: Tottenham Have To Keep Backing Conte
January was a start. But that’s all it was, a start. The signings of Kulusevski and Bentancur will offer Spurs new options and dynamics. However, more will be needed until Conte can be expected to really deliver.
The outgoings are a big bonus, mind. That should ensure Paratici and Conte have plenty of room to move in the summer months. A summer which, as we know, is going to be crucial to Spurs.
For Daniel Levy, he might actually appreciate the honesty. He’s taken a chance on so many managers and not been repaid, that maybe a fresh set of eyes was needed.
